Happy New Year Everybody!

We feel so grateful and honored to have such wonderful families, friends and fans!

We wish you the best in the New Year to come and let’s make 2014 a year to remember!

To kick things off we have upgraded our website to be compatible with portable devices. Open up our website on your cell phone/tablet and see for yourself. We hope you enjoy the new site and let US know if you find any bugs so it can be fixed ASAP.  

We feel privileged to be still making music together after six years together. We are booked into the studio in Calgary at the end of March and we have three very strong songs that we will be recording at that time. Our favorite engineer and producer Mark Troyer will be at the helm yet again and we expect to have excellent quality recordings available near the end of April 2014.

Our 2014 goal is to press a new EP and have both physical and digital copies available for purchase. We are excited to have a new physical album available so that we can shop it around and see what might come our way in the New Year ahead.

New music on its way

Greetings friends,

We (Union Soundtrack) are back at it and have plans to record three new songs in March 2013. The studio has been booked and we are now in the process of writing pre-production versions of the newest songs.

We are planning to release a new EP soon after we complete the March recording and will make copies available in both physical and digital formats. We are excited with the next three songs and are looking forward to sharing them with you soon.

For now we will be rehearsing regularly in preparation for our recording session. We are also looking at playing a few shows in the near future as testers and see how our friends react to the new songs. As always we will post our shows and impromptu gigs on our facebook page as they come up so you stay informed. We love your feedback and are looking forward to seeing you soon.

Back in the saddle

Hello,

Its been along time between May and August but were back to complete some new songs and play some great shows. As you can probably tell we took the summer off from the band to focus on our family, friends and careers. The summer break has had its ups and downs from the warm summer air to the tears we share for our friends and family.

We now embark onto new territory both creatively and spiritually as we move forward in our continuing celebration of life. We hope you will welcome US back into your lives as we begin to explore the world of music and bring you our best ever!

UNION SOUNDTRACK NEWS: update

We have a couple of interviews over the next couple months we what to share:

We have a radio interview scheduled for May 16 with CBC Edmonton AM morning show and will be promoting our song Street Car over the airwaves. The interview will be on location at the high level bridge street car between 6:00am and 8:30am. Come out and join US if you can I sure the folks at the CBC will be thrilled to have an audience present.

We are also booked to do a live interview with Jason Foui on his Death by Foui podcast on June 25, 2013. Dan, Peter and Austin will have a sit down chat with Foui and Havoc and talk about the band, pop culture and will be performing some new songs live.

Three New Songs this Spring

Hello hello,

We just wanted to share the excitement!
We have three new songs filtering through the pre-production phase of our little song writing operation here in Red Deer, Alberta. We have spoken with Mark Troyer Music (Calgary) and we are booked to record three songs this May!!

So why the dig deal? Well we are just happy to be on track with our recording agenda. Austin has finished a second draft of the lyrics for all three songs and Dan and Peter are tracking their parts this weekend. We will have our first pre-production mix in our hand by next week!!
EXCITING!!
That means we will have a month and a half to finalize each song and they will have an chance of making the cut for our May recording session. After our date in May we will have completed 7 new songs towards our second independent album release: Good Morning Midnight (GMM)

So what is next on the Union Soundtrack agenda?

We are talking about home recording some b-sides (songs that did not make the GMM album) and releasing them at shows once the album is complete. We have a large selection of great music on the cutting room floor that did not make the final cut but we feel they deserve to be heard. So stay tuned for more on that later on!

On another note, we have had some serious cuts to song ideas during our recent rehearsal. Two songs shortlisted for Good Morning Midnight were dropped. This was an unexpected surprise but we all agreed that the music lost certain appeal in light of the new material we have been writing.

However, out of the disappointment came a writing frenzy. We began playing with some new ideas and BOOM out of nowhere we created the foundation for two totally new songs. It was incredible and we got it all on tape. We were all taken back and the explosion of inspiration that took a hold of us.

We all agree that we have really found our niche and that the music we are now producing has reached a whole new level! So we have been focusing on the recordings we made and developing our ideas until we meet next Sunday to see how things will fall into place.

We also have a few video ideas we are planning to shoot for our YouTube channel as well so stay posted for that.

Update and CBC Music Searchlight

Hello again,

Well the month of January flew by and I have no problem with that as we have nothing but good news to deliver. Dan, Peter and Austin have been writing and working on five different songs which they believe are all worthy of the next recording session in May.

One of the songs, yet to be titled, is brand new and is now everyone's favorite. The reproduction recording sounds amazing as a striped down version consisting only of guitar and voice. The possibilities for adding new and exciting instruments seem endless but the song so very strong stripped down. We are all very excited to see what will happen over the next two months.

A super fantastic opportunity is being offered from CBC Music called Searchlight. It is a national contest that offers independent bands the opportunity to be discovered. It is based on fan voting and the winner will receive $20,000.00 towards the completion of an album, video and more.

Plans for the New Year 2013

Hello again,

We have entered the new year and once again it is time to make big plans for the year. Our biggest goal for the year is to complete recording our second album "Good Morning Midnight" in 2013. Now that we have a great website up and running we can focus on building momentum towards the goal.

We have already booked a recording slot with Mark Troyer in May to record two more songs. At the moment we are working on determining which two songs will make the final cut. We have gone through all of our available material and broken up the songs into A, B and C ratings. Songs with an A rating are the top songs that we are finalizing for the album. The B rated are songs that still need some work to make the cut, and maybe considered for use later down the road once they mature. The C rated songs are getting recycled into new songs later down the road. Some of the C rated riffs are excellent but the songs lack context as a completed piece of music.

So the good news is we have written enough A rated songs that all the material we plan to place on our 10 song release "Good Morning Midnight" is completed. So far we have recorded 4/10 songs and only have six more to go. The approximate cost of each song to record is about $850/song for a total recording cost of $5,100 plus an additional 1,200 for album artwork and pressing. In total we would require about $6,300 to complete our newest 10 song record in 2013.

The only unfortunate issue is we have too many songs. And that leads US to the question: can we find the money to release a 12 song album in 2013? (an additional $1,700) So now we will be making our case to both provincial and nations grant programs in an effort to get the funding we require to complete our ambitious tasks in 2013 wish US luck.

We are only offering this to as an additional means of reaching our fiance goals this year and would like you to donate only if you have purchased all of our music and really, really want to. Of course we appreciate any help and we will be keeping you updated through our blog postings as we progress.
